Over Labor Day weekend, I spent a couple days in the Legend Seeds booth at the South Dakota State Fair. I had the chance to visit with friends, dealers and even some old college roommates of mine. (Wow, did they get old!) No matter how the year is turning out in production agriculture, the fair is always a time of optimism. It's a highlight of the summer for the 4-H and FFA students who have worked hard all year to bring projects to display or animals to show. Everyone has something to be thankful for, and this year we heard everything from record crop to we cut everything for silage. However, the constant thing that we heard was that the Legend products were looking as good or better than others. No surprise when I look at our research budget!
This year, I noticed a competitor's booth at the fair. I was pleased to see all the excitement and activity in our tent dealers and customers were streaming in with Legend hybrids for the daily Big Ear Contest. Our staff was up and active, talking with dealers and prospects, while their staff hung back relaxing in recliners waiting for someone to stop by. Over the course of a couple hours, I'd guess over 100 people stopped in the Legend tent while less than a half a dozen crossed into theirs. Legend strives to be a great place to do business, and I think this is a sign that we are reaching that goal! We're also an independent company; our success is your success! For a national seed company, one of their objectives is often to keep shareholders happy, not customers.
As we move towards harvest, keep the Legend Yield Advantage Club in mind. In the coming months, we'l be rolling out the submission form and it is due December 1, 2016. Agriculture is always changing and there are peaks and valleys. I think the important thing to focus on is planning for a positive future. If we expect a negative future, that's just what we'll get. Let's plan for a positive harvest and a positive 2017.
As always, thank God for our blessings. Take time to appreciate your family and enjoy your favorite football teams this fall!
To your success,
Glen
