  • Minnesota update from Jeffrey Sorenson, Sales Agronomist: Minnesota crops have changed dramatically this week. Although the heat has aided in this process, in many cases disease is the driving factor for the rapid change. With this will come standability issues, so I encourage everyone to start evaluating fields and prioritize harvest. Also, be prepared to combine soon as most corn that was planted on time is at black layer or will be by next week. For more information, email Jeffrey.
  • North Dakota update from Mike Tofsrud, Sales Agronomist: Corn progress for the state is well ahead of normal. As I mentioned last week, be monitoring your fields for harvest timing as there are quite a few areas where late season anthracnose has shown up and will be causing stand issues. Silage harvest is over half done from what I have been hearing. Soybean harvest is really starting to get going in most areas of the state. Early reports have been saying better than expected yields. As with corn, be careful on how dry you let your beans get before harvesting so that you can limit the amount of harvest loss as much as possible. For more information, email Mike.
  • South Dakota update from Nick Brandenburg, Sales Agronomist: Harvest has officially started in South Dakota. I saw several combines in the fields along I-29 harvesting early soybeans. Many other fields looked close to being ready. Some hand shelled early planted corn had moisture in the mid 20’s. Monitor your fields for plant health and harvest the fields that are showing the most stress first. Silage harvest is continuing on later maturing corn. I have heard reports of Legend LNG hybrids over 30 ton/ac in many areas. For more information, email Nick.
  • Wisconsin update from Jacob Andrle, Sales Agronomist: Harvest has started on both corn and soybeans in most areas of the state. Most corn is mature or black layered or getting very close. Silage harvest is in full swing across the state with some areas to the south winding down. Diseases like Stalk Anthracnose, Goss’s Wilt, and Northern Corn Leaf Blight are causing some early death in corn fields, especially in areas that have received excess moisture in the past weeks. Timely harvest of affected fields may be needed as we head into the fall so it is a good idea to check fields to see if they have been affected. Soybeans are mostly at R6 and beginning to turn, with a few fields in the western part of the state and in areas that have been excessively dry coming off this week. For more information, email Jake.
