  • Minnesota update from Jeffrey Sorenson, Sales Agronomist: We all knew with all the rain that we had early and for that matter, all year in much of MN that we were going to have nitrogen deficiency, but over the last couple of weeks we have had deficiency in almost every field, even if it was side-dressed or split applied. Although I would not change my nitrogen plan for next year just because of this year, we can still learn what worked and what didn’t by taking stalk samples once the corn reaches black layer. For more information, email Jeffrey.
  • North Dakota update from Mike Tofsrud, Sales Agronomist: Soybeans have really started maturing in many areas of the state, with some beans looking like they might be getting taken off the second week of September. On the corn side of things, we are seeing silage chopping starting to take place. Keep monitoring your silage fields for chopping timing. We did have some hail roll through a few areas early in the week that did some damage south of Fargo. In most of our state the corn looks very good, and it’s looking like we’re going to get some dry corn right off the field. For more information, email Mike.
  • South Dakota update from Nick Brandenburg, Sales Agronomist: Corn and soybeans are both ahead of where they were last year for maturity stage. This is largely because of the increase in GDD accumulated. We are currently at 2371 GDD, 138 ahead of the 20-year average of 2233 GDD. I am seeing and hearing of a large amount of late season corn diseases starting to gain traction. Anthracnose Top Dieback is a big one in corn to look out for at this time of year because of the standability and ear drop problems it can cause. For more information, email Nick.
  • Wisconsin update from Jacob Andrle, Account Manager: Most of the state received some muchneeded rain this last week, but unfortunately many areas received more than needed. Corn overall is still ahead of schedule with most corn denting. Silage has started in a few areas, but with the recent rains, it will be awhile before some areas are able to get going. Northern Corn Leaf Blight and Anthracnose are beginning to show up in fields, especially those that were corn-on-corn this year. Soybeans are in the R5/R6 growth stage, and some fields planted early with earlier maturity soybeans are beginning to drop leaves. White Mold, Brown Stem Rot and Sudden Death Syndrome are all starting to show up in soybeans, especially fields that were soybeans last year. Now is a great time to get out and take a look at this year’s crop and make adjustments to plans for next year if needed. For more information, email Jake.
